The Great Wall
Being one of the natural wonders of the world, the Great Wall is the greatest military defense structure that was built in ancient China. In 221 B.C., Qin Shihuang, the first emperor of China, linked the separate walls together to fend off invasion from the North. From then on, the Great Wall was continuously extended and repaired during various dynasties. The Temple of Heaven
The Temple of Heaven is another must-see in the Chinese capital. It was built in 1420 A.D. (during the Ming Dynasty) to offer sacrifice to Heaven. The Temple of Heaven is surrounded by a long wall. The northern part within the wall is semicircular in shape, symbolizing the heavens whereas the southern part is in square form, symbolizing the earth. Since the design was to show that the heaven is high and the earth is low, hence, the northern part is higher than the southern part.
